Listen to our podcast on networking and building business relationships!
It’s been a little while since our last podcast episode, but I’m pleased to be back with you this week to share an excellent interview with networking expert Michelle Tillis Lederman.
I’ve been writing basically nonstop since 2019 began, and I’m excited to say that I’m nearly done. The second edition of The Science of Organizational Change is out, and between its pages you’ll learn how the latest in behavioral science helps us influence people, change behavior, manage risk, and lead change. The last edition was $55 – and soared to nearly $1000 dollars on Amazon – but thankfully, I got the rights back and it is now $19.99 in paperback and $9.99 in ebook.
As I mentioned last week, my upcoming book IMPACT: Using Science to Change Behaviors, Hearts, and Minds is available for Kindle pre-order on Amazon. (The paperback is not available for pre-order, sadly.) I’ve priced it really aggressively at $9.99, and you can find the preorder link here: https://amzn.to/2TZBjHT
And now, on to the show!
Michelle Tillis Lederman is one of Forbes Top 25 Networking Experts and the author of four books, including the internationally known The 11 Laws of Likability and new release The Connector’s Advantage. Michelle is a connection creator and CEO of Executive Essentials, which provides customized communications and leadership programs for fortune 500, non-profit, university, and government clients. A former finance executive and NYU Professor, Michelle is known for helping people work better together and advance their individual impact.
Michelle and I discuss her new book and why personal connections are so important to doing business today. We talk about how to network if you’re a shy person (or just hate the term “networking”), and how important it is to add value to your relationships. We also run through the seven mindsets of a connector and the connector spectrum so you can get a feel for how you’re connecting with other people in your industry and beyond. And, we discuss the importance of focusing on your similarities with other people and why you should connect with people over things beyond what you do for work.
What You’ll Learn about Behavioral Science from this Episode:
- Why connection is so important to modern business as our relationships become our most important asset.
- How to connect with others in a way that feels true to you and avoids the slimy “networker” feeling.
- How to improve your connections with others and become a super connector.
- The law of similarity and its effect on the people we build relationships with.
- Why abundance is a necessary mindset for a connector.
- The importance of mood memory to your interactions.
- Why connectors have to have a clear vision of what they want if they want to make all of their work better, faster, and easier.
